NYCDB Team of the Week – Round 15

Kyle Flanagan

Although it’s hard to not just name the Cronulla Sharks’ 1-17 as our Team of the Week after their 78-point win, there were a lot of great performances in a bye-shortened Round 15 of the Holden Cup.

As a reminder, we’re unable to watch every NYC game each week, so these Team of the Week articles rely heavily on the statistics provided by NRL.com.

Player of the Week
Kyle Flanagan (Cronulla Sharks)
After equalling the record the biggest ever NYC win and becoming the first NYC to crack 80 points in a game, our Player of the Week had to be a Shark. Easier said than done though, with a number of great games from their 17. Ultimately, we went with halfback Kyle Flanagan, who scored twice, kicked 12 goals (for 32 points – the second most scored ever by a player in a game), ran for 88 metres and set up a try and two line breaks in his side’s win.

Rookie of the Week
Ryan Lloyd (North Queensland Cowboys)
North Queensland second rower Ryan Lloyd was a standout in his side’s two point loss to Melbourne, as a Cowboy picks up our Rookie of the Week for the second week in a row. In just his fifth NYC game, Lloyd terrorised the Storm’s right edge, scoring three tries, running for 138 metres, making three line breaks and breaking a massive 10 tackles.
