Inaugural Johns and Daley Cup winners crowned

It was a landmark day for Country Rugby League as the Western Rams and Newcastle Knights became the inaugural winners of the Andrew Johns and Laurie Daley Cups in Mudgee.

The Western Rams took out the under-16 Andrew Johns Cup, going through the group stage and finals undefeated on their way to the title.

They defeated the Illawarra South Coast Dragons 22-10 in the Grand Final, with Rams’ captain Jack Hartwig named man of the match.

In the under-18 Laurie Daley Cup, the Newcastle Knights Development Squad also went through the season unbeaten, as they defeated the Riverina Bulls in the Grand Final.

Newcastle halfback Willy Lockwood was named man of the match in his side’s six-point victory.

Western Rams 22 (Rylee Blackhall, Tyler Colley, Noah Griffiths, Blake Martin tries; Tyler Colley 2, Noah Griffiths goals) def. Illawarra South Coast 10 (Jordan Morn, Isaac Morris tries; Alexander Lobb goal) at Glen Willow Regional Sports Stadium, Mudgee. Man of the match: Jack Hartwig (Western Rams).

Laurie Daley Cup Grand Final (under-18)
Newcastle Knights 22 (Patrick Achurch, Jye Bieman-King, Teva Mataora, Riley Meyn, Trentham Petersen tries; Jack Smith goal) def. Riverina Bulls 16 (Ben Arandt, Austin McDougall, Tyson McLachlan tries; Latrell Siegwalt 2 goals) at Glen Willow Regional Sports Stadium, Mudgee. Man of the match: Willy Lockwood (Newcastle Knights).
